Stuart Tom, Building Official for the City of Glendale, CA, where home fire sprinklers have been required in new construction of one- and two-family homes since 1986, talks about the new California legislation that went into effect on January 1, 2011, that requires sprinklers in new construction in single-family homes state-wide. Mr. Tom says that since sprinklers have been required in Glendale, there has been no fire deaths or significant injuries in new construction. NFPA's Faces of Fire campaign is a tool to help people and groups across the country promote the use of automatic fire sprinklers in one- and two-family homes. By containing fires before they spread, home fire sprinklers protect lives and property. The personal stories told through the Faces of Fire campaign will show the experiences of those who escaped or lost loved ones in home fires and those whose lives and property were protected by home fire sprinklers.
