Meet Linda Chavis of Lexington, South Carolina. Her son, Jeffrey Vaden Chavis, a 23 year old firefighter, died from injuries sustained in a house fire in 2001. Jeff began his firefighting career as an 18-year old volunteer firefighter for the Round Hill Fire Department. On July 12, 2001, he lost his life as a result of burns he suffered in the line of duty while fighting a home fire. The Chavis Family founded the Jeffrey Vaden Chavis House in 2002 to honor their son's memory. NFPA's Faces of Fire campaign is a tool to help people and groups across the country promote the use of automatic fire sprinklers in one- and two-family homes. By containing fires before they spread, home fire sprinklers protect lives and property. The personal stories told through the Faces of Fire campaign will show the experiences of those who escaped or lost loved ones in home fires and those whose lives and property were protected by home fire sprinklers.
