Early this morning at around 3:00 a.m. an officer with the Modesto Police Department made a routine traffic stop on the driver of a pick-up truck on Brighton Ave. near Coffee Rd.

The lone occupant of the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of the Park Brighton Apartments. As the vehicle came to a stop the driver got out of the truck and ran from the officer into the complex.

Back-up was called to the scene and officers established a perimeter as a search team was formed at the scene of the stop to begin a manhunt with the help of a man-tracking K-9.

When officers searched the truck they found a shotgun in a case which matched the description of a shotgun that was stolen from a Modesto home yesterday. The truck itself did not appear to be stolen vehicle.

Officers searched the area for about an hour but, the trail went cold and the search was called off.

Police are looking for a White or Hispanic male with a trimmed beard, average hight and weight, who was wearing a black and white baseball cap, black hoodie, blue jeans, and a backpack. The suspect may have been left with only one shoe as officers found one shoe along with fresh footprints during the search. Police also found what they believe to be his backpack during the search.

Officers at the scene said they have an idea of who the suspect may be but, that it is too early in the investigation to release that identity to the press. If and when they do, this video will be updated in the video description section.
