I am no longer teaching both 7th and 8th grade writing. My administration reconfigured the upper grades' schedule and added one more teacher to the team. We now have 3 7th grade homerooms and 3 8th grade homerooms. 7th grade has an ELA teacher (me) and a math teacher. 8th grade has an ELA teacher and a math teacher. Both 7th and 8th grades share a science and social studies teacher who they see twice a week. My education studies provided practice with devising hypothetical schedules for imagined schools. Most middle schools use various block schedules, 8th hour schedules, AB Day schedules, etc. My new school has utilized various schedules - the 5 day rolling schedule, 4 block schedules, etc. that expand my scheduling practice. There are many alternative scheduling configurations. Check out this ASCD source for schedules http://www.ascd.org/publications/educational-leadership/nov95/vol53/num03/The-Power-of-Innovative-Scheduling.aspx I recently purchased some shoes at a local shoe store, however, I'm not liking them very much. I visited Zappos online and found 2 pairs of shoes I really like. Had to revise my November budget a little bit to make room for the shoes, but I really needed shoes.
