One of the main goals of a worship leader is to disappear—to craft a service that reflects the attention off of the worship leader and towards God. And there’s even a push away from the feeling of big production in church services and towards something that feels simple and effortless. But just because the art feels simple and easy doesn’t mean that it’s simple and easy to create. It actually takes a lot of work to disappear.

I think it’s important to note that I’m not implying anything negative towards big production in church or Hillsong Young & Free. “Alive” will always be my jam. My point in including this clip was merely to acknowledge that this shift in worship style was happening but that even though the incoming style feels simpler doesn’t mean it takes any less prep work to create compared to the bigger production feel.
