A female grey-headed flying-fox has been electrocuted on power lines. She has a live baby attached. Energy company workers retrieve the dead mother and the baby is saved. The babies usually survive their mum's electrocution, being insulated by her fur. They may have burns or they may be unscathed. Often they have oral burns if they were suckling at the time their mum was electrocuted. The baby is called Ding Dong - named by the energy company workers. He had a burnt thumb - burnt down to bone. The thumb was amputated and he did really well and was released 5 months later.
