Kenton County reaches settlement in lawsuit of students being handcuffed

COVINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) - Kenton County will pay $337,000 to settle a lawsuit with the families of two elementary school students handcuffed by school resource officers.

The Kenton County sheriff did not admit liability in the settlement.

The children were handcuffed for misbehaving in Covington schools in 2014. The Children's Law Center and the ACLU sued in 2015, saying the students' rights were violated. Video of one of the incidents led to an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

The district put new policies in place in 2017 in an agreement with the DOJ.
