This chalk drawing for the Letter H is part of a series of videos dedicated to the Letters Main Lesson Block typically found in a Waldorf curriculum. This series depicts an Islamic version of the main lesson block featuring original art, lessons and stories (with the exception of two chalk drawings inspired by the Live Education! curriculum), based on religious and cultural texts relevant for the Muslim or religious family. Content for the stories is based on various stories found in the lives of the previous prophets. Each letter can be found in the drawing in the shape of a word that begins with that drawing (with some exceptions). Each lesson includes a story about that word/drawing as well as other grammar, phonics, and handwriting lessons. Content for each lesson has been sourced from various Islamic texts including Ibn Kathir's Stories of the Prophets, Prophets of Allah volume I-IV by Suhaib Hamid Ghazi and published by Iqra International Educational Foundation and The Sealed Nectar by Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri. Original poems have been composed for each letter and are presented alongside with the lesson. Letter H includes the story of Hijra from Makkah to Madina (known prior to hijra (migration) as Yathrib). The letter H is represented by the Horse which has its tail up to make the letter H more prominent. While most letters, it's easy to see the letter, this one is a bit more challenging. The story of Hijra really begins a few years earlier with the Pledge of Al-Aqaba in which member so the Aus and Khajraz tribes of Yathrib pledged their allegiance to Prophet Muhammad (saw). After a Sahabi, Mus'ab ibn Umayr, was sent to Yathrib to teach the people, the Muslims followed in the following year after Allah (swt) had given them permission. Once nearly all the Muslims had left Makkah, Prophet Muhammad (saw) was finally given permission to leave. He (saw) left at night and was joined by his friend and companion Abu Bakr (ra) who had bought and prepared two camels for their journey. After a couple of harrowing weeks in the desert, they arrived safely in Madina and were greeted by the throngs of Muslims who had eagerly awaited the Prophet's (saw) arrival. Please note that I did not have time to review the story before presenting it to my daughter so I may have made mistakes with the content.
