It's been nearly seven years since Bahrain cut off diplomatic relations with Syria. Now it says it is about to reopen its embassy in Damascus. The announcement comes just after the United Arab Emirates reopened its embassy there, a major step towards welcoming Syria back into the Arab League. The league suspended Syria's membership when anti-government protests and violence broke out in 2011. Bahrain and the UAE cut ties in 2012, as the repression of nationwide protests escalated into a devastating war.
