Jury selection for Charlottesville rally murder suspect from Boone County

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WKRC) - Jury selection started Monday for the man charged in a deadly crash at a white supremacist rally.

James Fields faces a murder charge in Charlottesville, Virginia. 

Fields grew up in Boone County, Kentucky. He reportedly drove into a crowd of counter protesters at the rally in 2017 where 32-year-old Heather Heyer was killed.

Fields also faces dozens of federal hate crime charges. 

Jury selection is expected to be a difficult process. The judge presiding over the trial says he would prefer to keep it in Charlottesville but left open the possibility of moving it if attorneys can't seat a jury.
