In 2001, Paul was jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, and his contributions to cell biology and cancer research were recognised with a knighthood in 1999. Paul has been Director and Chief Executive of the Francis Crick Institute since 2011 and is a former President of the Royal Society. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
