NEWPORT, Ky. (Joe Webb) -- 17-year-old murder suspect Makyle Wilson made his first appearance in adult court Tuesday morning.

His attorney asked the judge to reduce his bond and let him wait for trial on home incarceration.

Makyle Wilson was indicted in December for murder and tampering with physical evidence.

The indictment claims Makyle Wilson shot 18-year-old D‚„Angelo Wilson in the head and then hid the handgun. The two are not related.

D‚„Angelo Wilson was shot at the Barkley Ridge Apartments in Newport on August 6, 2014. He died at the scene. Police have not talked about a motive.

During Tuesday‚„s hearing, public defender Ray Ibarra asked Campbell Circuit Judge Julie Ward to reduce Makyle Wilson‚„s bond and allow him to await trial at home under court supervision.

Special prosecutor Kathryn Hendrickson argued against a change in bond. She said she was prepared to call a witness from the juvenile justice system who could testify that Makyle Wilson was on juvenile probation at the time of his murder arrest.

The judge asked both sides to submit arguments in writing and she would decide on bond at a later date.

Members of both teen‚„s families were in the courtroom for the hearing. Makyle Wilson‚„s family said nothing. Several of D‚„Angelo Wilson‚„s family members sobbed when they got their first look at Makyle Wilson.

‚“It was kind of nice to put a face with the name. It was my first time seeing the young man,‚ D‚„Angelo Wilson‚„s cousin Molly Fulmer told Local 12 after the hearing. ‚“I‚„m just shocked he‚„s trying to go home and do home incarceration. I think that‚„s just crazy for a crime like this.‚

Makyle Wilson will be back in court April 28th for a status conference. No trial date has been set.
