So, I got word not long after I got home from work Monday that I needed to be getting ready to go to UP's Coffeyville Sub soon. But I had to go get a new muffler installed on my car, so I thought there was no way I'd be able to go. As it turns out, it didn't take them long to do, and I was out of there after about 45 minutes. So I ran back home, got some things ready and took off. After a stop at my parents place around 3:30pm I was able to get out to the tracks at Leeds in KC, MO just after 4pm.

I had no idea what was coming, Chris likes to surprise people by not telling them what's coming, but has them get trackside anyway. He was saying that it showed the target was about 30 miles away and making good time.

But then it happened. The Curse of Coffeyville strikes again. Not long after I got there, everything just stopped. Two hours later a transfer with two GP15-1s goes by, then about a half hour later a manifest went through. But the target, stopped 25-30 miles away.

So I sit and wait, and wait, and wait some more. Hadn't had any breakfast, didn't get lunch, and it was approaching 7pm and still nothing and I was just a bit hungry. Then I got word it was finally moving again. Other railfans started appearing, but about half left as it was starting to get dark.

By this time I found out that it was a UP passenger special, an Inspection Train, with a bunch of UP "Big Wigs" on board. Around 7:45, the action starts to pick up, two more went by, and then finally at 8:15pm, well after dark, my target arrived. Over FOUR HOURS to go 30 miles.

Like UP will see this and actually care, but I'm gonna say it anyway. Seriously UP... what's up with you people and this line? None of your other routes are this flaky in KC, why does everything have to just stop when you start to approach Kansas City on this line? It's like you forget how to run a railroad on the Cofffeyville Sub. Because yes, they run their railroad according to how us railfans want. :D

Anyway, I wasn't sure what I was posting today, I let my buddy Spencer make the call because this weekend was a good one for us fans here in KC. I asked him what he wanted to see the most, and he picked this one, and Sunday's video is already decided too. So stay tuned, more to come!
