HAMERSVILLE, Ohio (Joe Webb) -- Seven horses at a farm on Stratton Road near Hamersville are eating Thursday only because a good Samaritan showed up two days ago.We came here Tuesday, me and my boyfriend, and threw hay for them, horse rescuer Brittany Weber said Thursday morning as she watched the horses eat. Weber came to the farm after a friend told her there were starving horses without shelter or water. We walked around and found a dead horse in the barn. And by the looks of it, the next one's not far from dying. Weber took pictures of the conditions at 11095 Stratton Road and sent them to the Brown County Humane Society. The photos show emaciated horses without food, water or shelter. Brown County Humane Agent Leslie Zureick arrived at the farm Thursday afternoon.I see a lot of starving horses and it appears, it's certain, that the people have abandoned the place, Zureick said. She's been here before. They have a history of hiding the horses. Moving the thin ones off when they think someone is looking and then they bring them back.Zureick says the property is owned by Dawn Ford who moved out last year. Neighbors say they haven't seen anyone tending to the horses in months. She moved to a farm in Kentucky interestingly enough. I got a call from their Humane Agent and she told them that she was fostering horses for Brown County because, I guess, the horses were thin and he questioned her. Zureick says previous attempts to file animal cruelty charges have failed. She says she will try again this time. Late Thursday afternoon, the Humane Society brought in a veterinarian who examined the horses. All were loaded onto trailers and taken to foster farms. The Brown County Humane Society is soliciting donations of feed and hay. If you'd like to help them CLICK HERE.
