Abstract:
It is critically important to accomplish major reductions in CO2 emissions from the industrial countries -- particularly the U.S. -- to keep a lid on increasing accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Major breakthroughs in energy performance of existing as well as new US buildings will be essential to keep CO2 levels at acceptable levels in the coming decades. This is a very important challenge from the perspective of managing the threat of significant change in the global climate. LBNL and UC Berkeley Campus have a breadth and depth of expertise in relevant disciplines that can be brought to bear on this challenge. This talk will offer a high level summary of our current thinking regarding the major opportunities and challenges in this area.
