These wounds are either overt--what is done to us, like physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, or covert, what we did not get, such as in the case of physical or emotional neglect. As infants, we are like sponges, soaking in the universe, and we self define by seeing ourselves in the eyes of Mother, or primary caregiver. If what is reflected back is darkness, we come to believe that we are "less than." According to attachment theory, we need touch, eye contact, consistency, and emotional attunement. Babies do not know how to self soothe, so letting them cry it out is a sure way to create insecure attachment and an anxious individual. Panel 1, The Wound, lays down the CAUSE of all psychopathology--human disconnect, in this case Mother/Infant disconnect. The wound is multi-generational in nature as many generations before us we become "infiltrated" by the wounds of the previous generation. Panel 1 is the SOURCE of all our problems of psychopathology.
