-----------------------------
Wakening slumber
Faded shroud
Blearly eyed wonder
At the world around

Breathing in the tailpipe
Appeasing morphine drips
Oooh am I the type
With these charred, seared lips

All that's wrong I must face
All that's right I'll embrace
Our linen and our lace

Before a cycle's broken
Your scars must show
Before a word is spoken
You must already know

So as you run your fingers
Across blistering skin
Fear ever lingers
Till you burn within

Chorus repeats x2
All that's dark we'll ignite
Watch it spark purified

Despite it once being my favorite original, I had grown disenchanted with "Linen and Lace". As my production skills developed, the issues with the prior track - most notably the absence of percussion - became increasingly hard to ignore. Rick helped this song along, but he could only go so far because my guitar playing was off time.

When "LL" popped up in a shuffled playlist and I couldn't even listen to it, I finally decided to do something. I contacted my buddy Mike from channel doctorcastille and asked if he'd be willing to help me out. Mike has extensive experience adding production to live guitar/vocal youtube vids, so if anyone could corral my mistake-laden efforts, it would be him.

As is often the case, I may not have the greatest abilities, but I do have a knack for finding the right partners. ;-) Mike's drums totally rekindled my affection for this song. He also added a piano track that works as a bedrock of the song, one of those tracks that is barely perceptable yet leaves an enormous gap when muted. Of course, I had to give it a few spots to stick its head out, and you can hear those in your left ear if you listen closely.

Mike also took the liberty of rewriting the verse bassline to accompany the new percussion better. This might've not needed doing had I just let Rick write one himself, instead of telling him what I preferred. Oh well, better late than never, right?

On top of the new additions, I took the opportunity to do some remixing as well. None of my tracks are new (I thought about retracking but decided against it) but lots of EQ/effect/pan/volume work has been done to give it a more professional coat of polish. Thank God I had the chance to do this because Rick's hammond organ track at the end of the song is extraordinary and I had it far too buried before.

If you saw this one before, you'll probably notice that the video is unchanged. I seriously considered doing something new, but ended up deciding that there was no improving on Alice's masterpiece.

I hope you take the chance to visit of their channels, loads of great stuff on all of them. Certainly worth your time if you have enough to spend 5 minutes with me. ;-)

Thanks for listening and supporting my music. I may never be the rock star I thought I'd be 15 years ago, but it is nice to find a place to share and commune with song.

Justin
