FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKRC) -- Teachers and administrators in Kentucky will now get automatic raises thanks to the state's two-year spending plan.

The plan requires school districts to give employees a one percent raise in the 2015 school year and another two percent in 2016.

House democrats want to make the raise mandatory. Senate republicans wanted the raises to be optional since there was concern some districts could not afford it.

Senate president, Robert Stivers says not every district will have enough money to cover the raises, however lawmakers allowed them to tap into other state funds to help cover the cost.
