Why does your 1TB hard drive read as 931GB on your computer? Because 1 TB is metric, and your computer reads in binary. You may instead be looking for tebibytes (the official term for the system your computer uses), which is 1024 gibibytes. 1 terabyte, on the other hand, is simply 1000 gigabytes.
