Shoulder Anatomy Briefly Explained!

Anatomy of the shoulder (Bones)

•Humerus
•Clavicle or collar bone
•Scapula or shoulder blade
•Shoulder joint muscles or glenohumeral joint
•Scapulothoracic articulation

The shoulder joint is also called as the glenohumeral joint, is the major joint of the shoulder. The glenohumeral joint comprises the part of the body where the humerus attaches to the scapula, and the head sits in the glenoid cavity. The shoulder joint is the junction between the upper extremity and the chest. The shoulder is made up of two joints, the acromioclavicular joint and the glenohumeral joint.

•Dull ache in shoulder
•Pain that radiates from neck to shoulder blade or vice versa

How Shoulder Pain Is Treated?

Shoulder pain treatment options differ depending on the diagnosis, but may include modification of activities, medication, rest, surgery and rehabilitation.  

If a person is experiencing shoulder pain, one should consult the doctor immediately.  Because treatment varies from patient to patient depending on the diagnosis for the shoulder pain, clinical evaluation is typically necessary for accurate diagnosis of the shoulder pain.

How To Prevent Shoulder Pain?

There is no foolproof method to stop shoulder pain from occurring, there are several suggestions that may help prevent it from beginning or getting worse.

1. Rest. If one notices shoulder pain during some activities, one should immediately stop the activity and observe whether rest is relieving pain or not.

2. Change your sleeping position. Avoid putting stress on one shoulder. 

3. Warm up. Always start with warm up stretches before beginning exercising regimen.

4. Build up your endurance. Always try to increase your endurance over time with your activities. Endurance should be increased slowly and gradually step by step, avoid overuse or overstrain.

5. Increase your shoulder strength. Physical therapy and strengthen exercises can significantly increase shoulder strength. Always take medical professional help before beginning or modifying any exercise regimen.

6. Cross-train. Some activities are particularly taxing on the shoulder due to repetitive movements, so one think about cross-training alternating with other activities or sports.
