OVER-THE-RHINE (WKRC) -- Senator Sherrod Brown made a stop in Over-The-Rhine Sunday to call for extended funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program. Unfortunately the funding for the program runs out in September if congress doesn't act, said Brown. This means for Ohio alone next year a loss of $47 million. That means thousands of children that are now getting health insurance will not get health insurance. Providing health insurance for low income children is not only the right thing to do, it's the smart thing to do. C.H.I.P. was created in 1997 as a joint state-federal health insurance program for low to moderate income children and pregnant women who are not Medicaid eligible.
