(17 Oct 2018) Singapore's Prime Minister welcomed the upcoming free trade agreement between Singapore and the EU to be signed in Brussels on Friday. Lee Hsien Loong, also the current ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) President, was speaking at a joint news conference with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz in Vienna on Wednesday. Lee argued the agreement could function as a "pathfinder to a EU-ASEAN FTA." Asked about Brexit, he commented this was a "matter for the British Prime Minister, cabinet and voters to decide" but that it was always "easier to make an agreement with one country instead of an organisation of 28 countries." Both Lee and Kurz will be in Brussels on Thursday and Friday for the ASEM, Asia-Europe Meeting.
