President Cyril Ramaphosa has three months to hire a new prosecutions boss after the courts declared the position of Shaun Abrahams invalid. The Constitution Court ruled today that the manner in which the former National Director of Public Prosecutions, Mxolisi Nxasana, vacated his office was invalid and the knock-on effect is that Abrahams' subsequent appointment was unconstitutional. So what now? Who can restore trust to the NPA? The confirmation application was brought forward by Freedom Under Law, Corruption Watch and the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution or CASAC.
