Chinese institute showcases its robot fish A top-ranking Chinese institute for #AI research, the Institute of Automation under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has recently showed off some new cutting-edge robots and technologies of neuroscience, including a robot fish. A #robot fish is an important aspect of #robotics, because a robot fish that can swim by itself in water like a real fish, without causing loud noises or strong vibrations, makes a special tool for water-related studies. On Thursday, the automation institute of CAS presented one of its robot fish at its lab, a fish modeled on the muskellunge. The institute has also created other robot fish, including one that is based on the salmon. According to the researchers, different types of fish require different kinds of propelling mechanisms and mechanics in order to make them look and move like real fish. The researchers also revealed that some of their robot fish have already been deployed in rivers to carry out water quality tests. The institute has also successfully tested the world’s first robotic dolphin, which can jump out of water like a real dolphin.
