Can you die in Majora's Mask to avoid the moon falling? In a word, 'No.'

I slowed down time and gave myself the best possible chance to die right as the timer hit 00:00:00. Every death knocked off only '00:00:02' off the clock. I tested this and that is exactly how long of a delay there is for Link to die again before respawning. In fact, I DID die as the timer hit 0, but even with 0 hearts and 'dead', the game overrides my death with the fact 72 hours is up rather than my own death.
