So I thought this would be quite interesting for everyone to watch. In this video, I ride through the same test (PSG). These two tests are 5 years apart on two different horses. The Black Horse is Wish who I was lucky enough to do young riders on and then, of course, you'll recognize Mr. Wilfred.

Wish finished 3rd on 68.8% at Hartpury Premier League
Wilfred finished 11th on 64.9% at Summerhouse Regionals

I feel its important to give you guys the full perspective alongside watching the videos. Wish was a horse that I didn't train and I can assure you I never felt I got a partnership with him in the time I rode him. I always felt like I was going around the tests on a wing and a pray hoping something didn't go wrong. I also had no knowledge of the foundations of riding. I knew all this and part of me wanted to just focus on improving my riding for the long term not just going out trying to prove I should be picked for the teams and hope I pulled it off. I also now know this is why I never felt happy or confident going into the ring. I was bluffing it! Luckily I didn't ignore that inner voice for long and set to work changing things.

Which brings us to Wilfred's test. Here is a horse I have trained from a just backed 5-year-old. He has tested and pushed me to my limits as a rider (we have many a vlog to prove this!) He has pushed me to grow because there was no option of just winging it on him! Unless he is 100% with me I can assure you it just won't happen. I am now at the point where we are in tune with each other. As cheesy as it may sound its like our souls become entwined and this was the feeling I was so longing for when I was younger. Of course, mistakes happen in tests still and I am aware we have not yet got massive expression but I now feel fully equipped to get this and improve.

The reason I am telling you this is because I feel it's important we look at the overall picture of progress. Not just what is on the scoreboard. Society drums it into us to focus on rankings, marks, grades, levels etc but there is always more to it than that.
