Sooner or later your programs will stop working properly, either due to a virus or conflicting software installed by Windows Updates. To fix the problems, scan you pc with a virus scanner and do a system restore. I try not to download these free antivirus programs. Most often, they are the cause of your problems. Indeed, try not to download anything at all. I use the antivirus program available from Microsoft. For Vista, they have the Windows Defender. Other Windows versions might have other names for the antivirus program.
 Run your system restore and most likely your problem will be fixed. Sometimes the virus stops you from running your System Restore. If that happens, press F8 and before Windows boot, go into Safe Mode and do your System Restore from there.
  If there's a problem, let Windows run the automatic file repairs when you run System Restore. Have your system recovery disks handy before you run your System Restore and be ready to use it should you run out of options.
