US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has met with South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha in Washington. Their meeting focused on steps to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination and insisted on a "final, fully verified denuclearization" of the DPRK. Negotiations between Pyongyang and Washington saw little progress in the past few months since their leaders' summit in June. Differences remain over the scale of denuclearization, U.S. sanctions, and whether to issue a declaration to formally end the Korean War.
