Clermont County residents debate hotel tax hike to fund FC Cincinnati practice facility

MILFORD, Ohio (WKRC) - We now know where FC Cincinnati will play its home soccer games in Major League Soccer, but the team is still working to build a practice facility.

The team's hope is to build one at the old Expressway Park near I-275 in Milford, and they're hoping for some tax money to help build it.

The plan is to add 1 percent to the hotel tax. The public got the chance Tuesday night to give their input. Most of the people who spoke are OK with that plan:

"This is a huge opportunity for Clermont County. I think it's one that is not going to come along anytime in the future," said Chip Hart.

"My hotel, we could definitely use more business. Across the board right now, the hotels are down right now. So we can use more revenue opportunities," said general manager of Holiday Inn Eastgate, Nick Baker.

Some attendees did oppose the plan.

"At the end the day, we need to focus. Elected officials need to focus on delivering the needed essential services and stop spending taxpayers' money on private endeavors," said Pamela Gross.

"To put a burden on somebody else to stay in your county just doesn't seem right to me," said James Rhodes.

The earliest county commissioners would decide is next week. If the tax increase is approved, FCC hopes to have the facility open by next summer.
