Low-speed chase through Hamilton County streets ends with arrest

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - Law enforcement officers followed a minivan for nearly two hours after the driver failed to stop for a deputy. That chase ended on North Bend Road in the Carthage area with the arrest of David Whalen, 55

A Hamilton County deputy tried to pull the van over initially on I-74 at about 10 a.m. for a traffic violation. He put on his lights and sirens but he says Whalen did not pull over.

Ohio State Patrol and other police agencies joined the pursuit as it went onto I-275 eastbound, Hamilton Avenue and then through Carthage, Lincoln Heights and other neighborhoods repeatedly for nearly two hours.

The sheriff's office says deputies used stop sticks to deflate three of the minivan's tires. Speeds often hovered between 5 and 20 miles per hour.

Deputies say Whalen stopped the minivan on Caldwell Avenue and ran off. A police dog helped get Whalen under arrest on North Bend Road. Deputies say he'll face felony fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest and numerous other charges.

A woman did jump out of the van in the area of Fairpark and 77th. Amanda Randolph, 33, was questioned by police and arrested on an outstanding drug abuse warrant.
