CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Thousands in Cincinnati enjoy a longstanding tradition that starts long before the big feast. It's the 109th annual Western and Southern Thanksgiving Day Race. Twelve thousand people laced up their running shoes and burned some calories before sitting down for that hot meal. For those participating, making it across the finish line is just one of many things for which to be thankful. Rosemary Chalk grew up in Cincinnati and is in from Washington, DC to visit with family. "We have family still here and at our Thanksgiving table tonight we're going to have 29. So we're really thankful that everybody's coming in from Cleveland, Columbus, Nashville, Miami, New York City and Washington DC." Melissa Amsbaugh says this race has been a family tradition for years and she is excited to see her sons participating this year. "I'm thankful for my boys and my husband who is back home helping us get ready for Thanksgiving, and my dogs. My friends and my family just being there for me in tough times and just being able to be with them on thanksgiving is a blessing." J.J. Webber from Maineville was the first finisher. Tina Muir was the women's winner.
