The Sensor Photonics Research Center (SPRC) of Toyo University presented and displayed development technology for "measuring temperature using a fluorescent temperature sensor" at the 2008 Autumn Innovation Japan exhibition held in Tokyo. The non-contact type fluorescent thermometer sensor can measure temperature, chemical, and environmental data with high precision even in special environments, and as a result, temperature can be measured using fluorescent materials in various thermal processes with this measurement system designed for optical applications.
Possible applications include use for precision temperature control and temperature monitoring in areas that use microwaves in the manufacturing process and as a thermometer that uses light to measure body temperature or as an indoor temperature gauge that uses light.
