TO GIVE IS TO EXTEND YOUR BEAUTY BEYOND YOURSELF This is a video of an unplanned moment in the celebration of music whose principal purpose is the perpetuation of life's fulfillingness. Repetition in African music - and therefore that of the human spawn - is to reinforce the feeling of being alive and present. It is to create a safe space for each person to feel a sense of belonging both to themselves and to the gathered group. It is a constant reminder of where home is. It is to give the permission that we all need to feel free to lose ourselves and thus find more of ourselves in the midst of the circle of love. This short video is a testament to this fact. It is edited from footage of a spontaneous musical event that was prompted by a delicate situation. Eugene Skeef was engaged by Aldeburgh Young Musicians to lead a 4-day intensive series of creative music workshops that formed part of their induction process. He invited his colleagues Eddie Parker (flutes), Jessica Maryon Davies (voice) and Kit Downes (piano and udu) to complete the team. During one of the sessions a young student needed support with restoring her wholeness. The generosity of the group is unparalleled.
