According to Jelly Roll Morton, himself no mean performer and composer, Tony Jackson from New Orleans (1882-1921) was one of the "greatest single entertainers in the world" - praise indeed from this usually difficult and self-regarding man. Jackson, by all accounts was a wonderful pianist, composer, singer and all-round performer who wrote catchy tunes and songs at the drop of a hat. Like many of his day, much of his output was unpublished, but one song that was published - and sold millions of copies of sheet music worldwide - was "Pretty Baby". This was published in 1916 but was probably written around 1910.
It's a lovely tune and I'm just playing the main chorus here, with a slow blues feel and an improvised section in the middle. I'm capo'ed on the 3rd fret and playing it in G on my Chisholm mid-jumbo ("No. 18") guitar. You can get music, tab and chords for this from my website at:
