Alabama Shakes: 2013 Grammy nominated best new artists are a 4 member rock band from Athens, Alabama. Meeting in high school and covering songs from Led Zeppelin, James Brown, Otis Redding and AC/DC they started out as the Shakes before adding Alabama to the mix. They released their four-song EP Alabama Shakes in September 2011 and earned an invitation to play at CMJ. It was this performance that received a glowing review from the NY Times that secured their meteoric rise to the MTV's 11 artists to Watch in 2012 as "doing their darndest to put the spotlight back on the Southern rock/soul, and we have yet to find a single person who's mad at them for it."
