Gyps africanus is the most widespread and common vulture in Africa. Its global population has been estimated at 270,000 individuals. The White-backed Vulture is a typical vulture, with only down feathers on the head and neck, very broad wings and short tail. Like other vultures it is a scavenger, feeding mostly from carcasses of animals which it finds by soaring over savannah and around human habitation. It often moves in flocks. It requires tall trees for nesting. Het is een aaseter. witruggier - witrugaasvoël - white-backed vulture - gyps africanus Visit WWW.STOCKSHOT.NL for highres version or broadcast video footage.
