Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi says he does not want an armed conflict with his country's Kurdish minority. During a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, al-Abadi called separatism unacceptable, and reiterated his view that the September 25 independence referendum was illegal. The prime minister urged Peshmerga forces to work with Iraqi security forces under the control of the central government. Macron voiced his support for the rights of Kurdish citizens while defending Iraq's territorial unity. He also called for dialogue between Baghdad and Iraqi Kurdistan.
