Steven Wilson was asked by fans on a recent Q&A about his thoughts on modern pop music, to which he replied, saying. "Well, modern pop, as in really mainstream... to be honest, I have a problem with most modern pop. "So much of it seems to be in thrall to American R&B, to the point of almost complete dominance - and I'm not a huge fan of American R&B. I like some classic stuff, Prince and that kind of stuff, but modern pop seems to be so influenced by American R&B, which is the sound I'm not particularly thrilled about, almost to the complete detriment of any influence from rock pop music that it doesn't really appeal to me. "I love Daft Punk for example, I don't know... even they've been around for 20 years, that's not really modern, is it? "I really like this band called Cigarettes After Sex, they've just released their first album. But again, that's not really pop. Depends on your definition of pop."
