CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Dragon fruit is a tropical fruit said to have several different antioxidants called flavoniods, which may help boost immunity and fight disease. They cost about $2 each at Findlay Market and just how to use and eat them is a Friday Food Feature! People cut the tropical fruit in half. It grows on the hylocereus cactus, also called the Honolulu Queen, who's flowers open only at night. It's grown all over the world now, but native to southern Mexico and Central America. Dragon fruit goes by a few names including pitaya, pitahaya, and strawberry pear. The two most common types of it have bright pink-red skin and green scales dried around it. Some say that resemble a dragon which is why it's called the dragon fruit. The white pulp and black seeds are packed with powerful nutrients said to fight disease. As for it's taste, people say it's a cross taste of a kiwi and a pear.
