Many have heard the term. They just don't know what that means. Inflammation in arterial plaque is very similar to the inflammation seen in inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, Chron's disease, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Here's what happens - the immune system sees tissue that should not be there. So it attacks these tissues. In rheumatoid arthritis, it's attacking bone and cartilage. In Hashimoto's thyroiditis, the tissue is the thyroid gland. In cardiovascular disease, the tissue is LDL that has been deposited between the intima and media layer of the artery wall. Most of families of immune cells are involved in these processes, whether the tissue is bone, thyroid, or plaque. These cells are monocytes, mast cells, T cells, foam cells, neutrophils, and other immune cells. The term cytokines is made up of two roots: cyto -meaning cell, and kines - meaning attractant. The cytokines IL ( Interleukins), TNF, and others are all involved in this process. -- Read more about heart attack & stroke risks here: https://prevmedhealth.com/15-rules-to-prevent-heart-attack-and-stroke-risk. -- ABOUT DR.
