This lesson focuses on applying the 3-note per string scale technique. This technique is best started into by making a study of the various shapes that establish these patterns on the fingerboard. Once you’ve studied the patterns (and once you’ve discovered a few of what we’ll just call our favorite regions to play licks and runs in), you’ll be able to start performing the shapes faster with an easier effort. The next level is to phrase your lines within these patterns. When doing that, you’ll also start noticing that the 3-note per string shapes will operate very effectively to build compound meter phrases, such as 8th and 16th note triplet runs.
