The Blue Mountains lie right behind Sydney. This is the perfect opportunity for the locals to relax in their free time. Thousands of visitors come here for the fresh air, breathtaking views and especially for the peace and quiet, just like the kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and the rest of the animal kingdom.
Wallabies are a sort of smaller relative of the kangaroo. And to make it even more difficult, wallaroos also exist. All in all dozens of species. The swamp wallaby, as its name already suggests, lives mainly in damp areas. Its most important food consists of bushes, seedlings, mushrooms, ferns and grass.
The broom is nice to look at, but does not really belong here. It was brought by European immigrants who had their own opinion about growing plants
Do you recognise them - the different layers of sea floor?
The secrets of the rock formations in the Blue Mountains are revealed in different places on the surface. In the middle of the eucalyptus trees, but also in mysterious caverns. The rocks at the foot of the mountains are made of softer material than at the top.
Over the past 3 million years the Blue Mountains have become what they are now, a mountain plateau, at present 1200 metres higher than when it all started.
