Bass fishing after a cold front in the winter can be the best fishing all year if the bass have a large population of shad nearby. Such is the case on Lake Jackson in Tallahassee Florida. Here is a fun video of a recent trip where we ran into some really quality size fish. Alabama rigs used are Yum Flash Mob Jr's with Land Is The Limit Boom Shads in Mint Chocolate Chip It is often said that bass quit biting after a cold front. We have found that cold snaps during the winter can make the bass start seeing red and you can absolutely wear them out using shad patterns. Any lake with a large population of shad is going to be excellent for cold front bass fishing action. Threadfin shad undergo a kill off when the water temperature gets cold, and the bass will follow them into creeks and bays and eat the weakened shad. On this particular lake, the shad move out into the open water away from the grass and pads and the bass school offshore and eat the shad. The number one technique for catching cold front bass is to target them with Alabama rigs (umbrella rig) rigged with swimbaits and we usually do pretty good. On a bigger lake or reservoir look for diving birds at creek mouths or in the backs of creeks and you will probably smash the bass! Make sure you are using your flipping stick when throwing the alabama rig. You need a broomstick rod and heavy braid to throw such a heavy bait.
