Hi folks, I decided to record this video tonight of a song I wrote about six years ago for an original musical based on the life of a young man named Avery Greene. Avery has dedicated his entire life to dance and at 18 years of age, is confronted for the first time by his sexuality when his long-time dance partner Cassie, and new friend Tamati, both make their affections for Avery known to him. In this song, Avery works to make a decision about himself that will shape the course of his life. Lyrically, this is one of my favourite songs that I have penned to date. I hope y'all enjoy it too, and I will be sharing more songs from this musical in time to come. Peace and love, Renee. LYRICS: Who do I choose? When I've got so much to lose on both counts In such massive amounts It's that feeling of pain When you've got so much to gain But your passiveness pounces And by all accounts it's the thing that holds you back When your brain's torn apart And your heart's under attack She's the one that's good for me She's the one that's right She loves it when I read her poetry So we could stay up reading Keats all night And I can see us in 20 years time Making love with a dance in our hearts A convincing performance Of perfect conformance Assuring all others We're two perfect lovers Alone but together Each day will be better than the last And as time goes past Maybe I'll learn, dismiss my concern And this unfounded dread Over sharing my bed With one woman, one wife For the rest of my life... Is that really my choice? Is my inner voice speaking out? Oh, how I wish it would shout And just give me a sign So the choice isn't mine To bear the consequences And put on false pretenses And play out this charade Go to the ball where it's all masquerade He's the one that's good for me He's the one that's right He views the world so differently And I could learn to see it with him with a different sight And I can see us in 20 years time Changing the minds of the world Sharing our passion Like it's going out of fashion There will be dangers I mean, we're practically strangers But slowly my mind will Be charged by the blind thrill Of taking a lover With things to discover And surely all mankind Will have their views re-defined And we won't suffer the sting Of this inhumane thing Some people might call The worst sin of them all... Do I want that either? Perhaps it should be neither I'll stick with what I know best Rehearsals and shows - yes! Get control of my toes - check! The the will slowly grows The voting is closed There's nothing here to lose It's someone I can use Without them being offended This conversation has ended My fears I can always allay As long as I've got the Ballet! And I can see me in 20 years time Dancing my way round the world And Tamati and Cassie Will both be very happy They didn't get picked by The friend they still stick by If life could be perfect That's how it would be And it will all be worth it When I'm the next Nijinsky In love with the dance With each new routine I'll pour my romance into every new scene I'll pick up my dancing shoes For they're who I choose!
