GPMS Rejects UEC, Causes Disarray To Education System

In the meantime, recognising the Unified Examinations Certificate (UEC), as a legitimate entry requirement for tertiary studies would cause disarray in the country’s education system. Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung (GPMS), president Zambri Mohd Isa said the group is the move not just based on the fact that the certificate is administered by non-governmental organisation, Dong Zong. But several other factors that the government should take into serious consideration. He pointed out that as an NGO, Dong Zong is registered under the Societies Act and is not a statutory body like the Malaysian Examinations Board. As such if the government recognised and approved the UEC, there would be several other NGOs that would want to follow suit and introduce such examination certificates. Zambri added that Dong Zong's refusal to include Bahasa Malaysia and History as subjects in the UEC proved that they have no regard for unity or fostering understanding among Malaysians.
