I drew the #1 starting position and took the lead early on, gaining distance on the field. By the last lap I was almost a full lap ahead of the 2nd place car, the #26 Crown Vic driven by Hugh Brayton. At the start of the last lap, a car caught on fire in the first turn and the driver jumped out into the track. I stopped as did several other racers, assuming there was a Red Flag, but the officials never stopped the race and #26 was able to pass me and take the win. The track officials admitted it was a mistake and that the race should have been stopped, and rewarded me with an increased purse for 2nd place as consolation.
