Statistic South Africa has recently released the shocking numbers on pupils who gave birth last year only. As stated in the Recorded Live Births 2017 report released by Stats SA, there are 3 261 girls between the ages of 10 and 14 who gave birth last year, and 119 645 girls between the ages of 15 and 19 who also gave birth last year.... These are no doubt shocking numbers, but the question really here is why do we find ourselves in this situation? We are now joined in studio by the Statistician-General Risenga Maluleke, the department of basic education spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga and the Secretary-General of the National Association of SGB.
