A girls 16th birthday party with friends went terribly bad Saturday night on Emerald Court in New Caney. The young lady was allowed to invite friends to the party, however, several hours into it several unwanted guests appeared. One of the girls who arrived assaulted a parent when asked to leave the property. Then several Hispanic males who were also not invited joined in the assault. By the time it was over the unwanted party crashers were backing out of the driveway, several rocks were being thrown at the 2002 gray Suburban they were driving. In backing up they hit a vehicle, a fence and then at least four different people. One of those was Ray Jasso, 29, who lived around the corner. Earlier in the evening he had attended the party but left and was out in the street popping fireworks with his young children. When the disturbance started he snatched his children up and put them in the back of a truck parked there. Seconds later the Suburban backed over him. Critically injured the vehicle hit him again as it fled. One of the family members from the party who had some medical experience tended to him as 911 was called. As deputies, EMS and fire responded, the close to 100 party goers quickly loaded in vehicles and fled the scene only leaving a handful behind. During the incident, most had cellphone video. Jasso and one other person was transported to the hospital. Jasso died several hours later. The other victim was later released from the hospital. Two others did not seek treatment. Montgomery County Detectives along with DPS spent the entire night in interviews with witnesses and collecting evidence. Over the next several hours Snap Chat, Facebook and several other social media websites were covered in videos of the incident. Along with that were photos posted of several persons believed to have been involved and messages between party goers. One of the men identified by several and believed to have been a suspect had just been released a short time back from the Montgomery County Jail. Detectives were quickly determining he was not the one pictured in the videos. Tips to Crime Stoppers were flowing in as were calls to detectives. Through the entire day Sunday and into Monday night detectives, DPS Troopers and Texas Rangers had little sleep. They were bound and determined to find the driver and the vehicle. One detective, who was going through video's one frame at a time was lucky enough to get a good view of the driver. Then minutes later just one frame showing a clear image of the license plate. Monday evening detectives went to the location just outside Loop 610 in north Houston and found the vehicle. They identified one passenger but found the driver had fled. Tonight, a search by Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Texas Rangers and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task force is actively searching for the driver. Until the warrant is signed they are not releasing the drivers name. He is believed to be in the Houston area and detectives are hoping, after seeing the coverage and knowing he is being sought that he turns himself in. They have also identified the others in the Suburban. The Suburban was wrapped in plastic to preserve the evidence and was transported to the Montgomery County Crime Lab to gather evidence. The front seat is littered with glass, the from window is cracked and pitted but not broken out. Detectives say they are not going to let up until the driver is in custody.
