This is a 1980s UK commercial for the Hitachi Auto-Sensor One Touch Microwave Oven, but I am unclear as to whether it is a radio commercial or the audio from a TV advert. A lot of the other commercials featured on the cassette tape I took this from appear to be from radio, but the way in which the speaker talks about "this family" (what family?!) makes me believe there must have been a visual TV commercial to go with the audio recording.

"You are about to witness the supernatural. A phenomenon called Auto Sensor has given each member of this family a power that can be transmitted through one finger. One touch and something astonishing begins. Their Hitachi microwave oven develops an intelligence of its own, cooking most dishes without any pre-set timing whatsoever. Somehow the cooker itself understand when each dish is ready. It sounds like science fiction, but it could happen in your home. The Hitachi Auto-Sensor One Touch Microwave - the cooker that thinks for itself."

Mum used to hold jumble sales for her favourite charity back in the late 1980s and this cassette tape was donated in a bag of bric-a-brac for her to sell. Unfortunately, it never sold and has remained in our cupboard ever since.

We are unsure of its origins, but I would love to know more about it. One side is titled "Merry Christmas from the Norths" and includes a recording of a group of people singing various Christmas carols and songs. The other side is titled "Jingle Showreel - Nicky & Friends". I'm guessing it was a demo tape that somebody sent round to local radio stations etc. back in the days before MP3s. This side includes recordings of various commercials, some of which I presume to be from radio, others from TV (although I only have the audio, of course). Most are set to famous tunes with very creative original lyrics.

I'm a bit too young to remember these, but if anybody has any information on the commercials or people featured on this cassette tape, please do leave a comment below!
