Periphery - New Groove drum cover. I think the name of this song pretty accurately describes the song itself. After watching Troy Wright's drum cover of "New Groove", I was immediately hooked by... well the groove. This short, ghost note infested, djenty, instrumental track features a very musical double bass rhythm, with a classic prog metal stack cymbal beat to interrupt it. This song was heavy and intense, yet also so rhythmic and groovy. 

I like listening to progressive metal because the grooves are so challenging and complex, yet so logical and intuitive. I haven't had to sit down and memorize a Periphery groove yet; I haven't had to look up the drum transcript for any of their songs. I just feel the groove and play what seems right until I've eventually mastered the part. This may not be the best strategy for longer, more difficult songs but it has worked for me thus far.
